With the release of Android 17, your device can take advantage of the Advanced Protection Mode (AAPM) which changes the behavior of certain system services to prioritizes security over some potentially reduced functionality and usability. Because several Emsisoft security features (such as Web Protection and App Anomaly Detection) rely on Accessibility permission to provide real-time protection, you may notice that they became unavailable to you while the AAPM is enabled.

This behavior is caused by Android’s security restrictions and is not an issue with the Emsisoft Mobile Security app. Emsisoft is evaluating possible solutions to support these features while keeping the AAPM active. If a solution becomes available in a future release, this article will be updated accordingly.

Before making a change, consider which option best fits your security needs.

How to turn off Advanced Protection Mode

If you decide to use the affected Emsisoft features, you can disable Advanced Protection Mode by following these steps.
Please note that the names of some menus may vary slightly, depending on your device make and model.

  1. Open Settings on your Android device.
  2. Then scroll down and go to Security & privacy > Advanced Protection.
  3. Turn off Device protection and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the change.
  4. After Advanced Protection Mode is disabled, return to the Emsisoft Mobile Security app and follow the prompts to enable Accessibility permission. Once the permission is granted, the features limited by the AAPM will be available again.
