First Look: Emsisoft for macOS 2025.9 beta
We’ve just rolled out Emsisoft Anti-Malware 2025.8.0.531 beta and it now includes the highly anticipated macOS agent! This marks an important step in bringing the same level of protection our customers know and trust to macOS environments.
How it works
The macOS agent is available across all three editions of our product: Emsisoft Business Security, Emsisoft Enterprise Security, as well as Anti-Malware Home.
There is no separate Mac license, your workspace works the same across all operating systems. You can install Emsisoft agents on any supported OS, as long as you have seats available in your workspace. Windows and macOS are treated the same, except that on macOS, only remote management mode is available (local settings aren’t currently supported).
Most core features available on Windows are already included, but a few Mac-specific limitations apply. You can check the full list of supported features on macOS and compare it with Windows here: Emsisoft Pricing & Features.
Known user-facing issues
As this is a beta release, some functions may not work as expected. Below is a list of currently known issues and suggested workarounds:
- Licensing/Seats: Fresh installs may display license errors due to internet connection issues.
What to do: Re-try deployment from Workspace, ensure internet/proxy access, and use the latest build from the MyEmsisoft website. - Web protection: The Emsisoft Network Extension may not enable, or pop-ups may repeat in a loop.
What to do: Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and *Network*, enable Emsisoft Network Extension. - File Guard not working: If Full Disk Access is not enabled, File Guard is disabled, but the UI/EMC may still display it as “active”.
What to do: In System Settings, re-enable Full Disk Access for both the app and the protection service. - Restoring from Quarantine: Items may be re-quarantined immediately unless excluded first.
What to do: Add a temporary exclusion, restore the file, verify, then remove exclusion. - Performance: ProtectionService may show unusually high sustained CPU usage during scans on VMs.
What to do: Restart the application. If the issue persists, report it with sample files and logs. - Scan: Post-scan actions like quarantine and removal of malware succeeds, but the message states the action was not performed.
What to do: Check the logs and confirm the action was performed correctly.
