As a company which sells security software, we take your privacy very seriously. This page details the type of information we store about you and how we use it.
Information about you
You can use our software trials without disclosing your name for up to 30 days and our freeware software without a time limit. If you order a full version and register your license key, the license will be associated with the email address you used to register your user account.
We would like to make our position clear at this point and assure you that we will never consciously install a hole in our series of products in order to allow access for a Government Trojan or similar software. If it ever comes to a legislative or court decision that forces us to do this then we will immediately notify our users of this fact. Especially the behavior analysis module of Emsisoft Anti-Malware does not distinguish between "benign" and "malignant" pests. As a user, you always have the possibility of immediately blocking a suspicious program.
If you subscribe to any of our newsletters, a user account will be created for you if you don't already have one. An Emsisoft user account contains the following information:
- The name that you registered with (nicknames are permitted).
- The email address that you registered with.
- A salted hash of your password (the password is never stored or sent in plain text).
- Your subscriptions to our newsletter channels.
- Your preferred language and your country based on your IP address.
- Information on how you found us (search engine, websites, magazines, etc).
- Your last known IP address.
Software licenses are stored on and maintained by Emsisoft servers. During online updates, the validity of license keys is verified. Emsisoft stores the following information about licenses:
- Information on the details of your registered licenses (seats, start and end date, etc).
- Statistics on your use of software updates.
- Information about your computer environment: Operating system edition, version and unique ID.
- Information on whether you used a tagged setup file from our customer referral program.
- Optional a user account reference if you registered your license key with your user account.
If you choose to participate in the Anti-Malware Network community, our software might send information about detected malware, software behavior, operating system variables and blocked hosts to the Emsisoft servers. The data is processed by our servers to generate statistics and suggestions to help other Anti-Malware Network participants.
Information on newsletters, how to cancel and recorded data
E-mails containing commercial information about us and our services as well as our products, are sent with your explicit consent only.
Messages sent within the context of our contractual relationship with customers are not part of commercial information and do not require your consent. This includes sending of technical information; information about changes to our services, prices or contractual provisions; billing; further inquiries about your orders and similar messages.
Before receipt of our newsletters, you will receive a confirmation mail requiring you to confirm your subscription. Subscriptions that have not been confirmed within four weeks time will be discarded. You can cancel your subscription at any time via a number of methods, including the unsubscribe link contained within each e-mail.
As part of your subscription, we record your registration and confirmation as well as your IP address. Furthermore, we record data on the sending and receipt of all newsletters. This information is used exclusively to provide proof that we comply with the legal obligations for sending solicited newsletters.
Data circulation to third parties
Any information we collect from you is only used by us to serve you better. Your information is never given to a third party.
The posts on our discussion forums are publically accessible. Before submitting a post you should ensure that you did not enter any personal data. Search engines can and do collect information from the discussion forums and can publish it even if the information has been deleted from our servers. Deletion or correction of such postings held in a cache by 3rd parties such as search engines is not always possible.
Your right to cancel
If you wish to cancel your account, please contact us and we will remove your account information as soon as possible.

- Emsisoft has never modified its software for the purpose of collecting data due to political pressure.
- Emsisoft has never modified its software to prevent detection of any malicious software due to policital pressure.
- Emsisoft has never terminated a customer or taken down content due to political pressure.
